Today I would like to recommend the Italian band Opera IX. Here is one of my favourite pieces by them; Beyond the Black Diamond Gates.
Opera IX was formed in 1998, and are commonly labelled as a Symphonic Pagan Black Metal band, although their music incorporates much more variety than simply black metal, including influnces from gothic, death, doom and even folk. The music is well structured and thought out, and complimented by rich, but not overpowering symphonics throughout. The guitar work is distinct and memorable, and sometimes even catchy. Both clean and growled vocals were performed by Cadaveria, the female lead of the band who has now left, but since her departure the band is still served by good vocals from other vocalists.
All of their albums are worth a listen, but I would personally recommend The Black Opera.
