Review: A2aThoT - Trust Your Ear (EP)

Psychedelic Doom Metal
It seems that you just can't get the staff these days, or maybe there's another reason for all these one man bands emerging. Presenting experimental doom metal, A2aThoT (pronounced Azathot) is one such project from Italy.

Upon listening we're immersed in a vast soundscape, reminiscent of a desolate post-apocalyptic world. Wandering in isolation things become harsher, mountains crumble before us, volcanoes erupt and the sky changes colours. Is it real, or are we imagining it?

As the disc progresses we fall deeper into this surreal world of many contrasts. Life and death, hope and despair, light and dark. The music brought us here, but it's also the only way back... trust your ears.

Many influences are combined from heavy doom chords to the deep and passionate Pink Floyd solos. The guitars are cutting with a caustic quality about them, and the production isn't over-polished maintaining a rough edge which is perfect for the sound.

An interesting listen of introspective psychedelia. 9/10
