Review: Chiasm - 11:11

Starting out in 1997, Chiasm is the dark electronic solo project of Emileigh Rohn. Throughout her career her music has appeared in other media, most notably PC game "Vampire: The Masquerade" and the drama television series "NCIS".

Chiasm's most recent release is "11:11". The album offers eleven tracks of cold, acid driven darkness. In a genre riddled with non-inspired genericism, this offers a refreshing listen. Sparse and desolate, yet so rich, the music has many contrasting and intricate layers. Reflecting vibes from an experimental era,  this shares the bleak atmosphere of many of the earliest industrial releases and at times combines it with the tribal like dance attributes of darkwave bands like Switchblade Symphony - all flawlessly mastered with a modern edge.

Rohn's vocals are remarkable sweet, contrasting with the dysphoric background. They are often heavily processed, which most of the time I am not a fan of, however here it works very well. The synthesizers are a mix of acid ticks and bass sounds, layered with luscious string sounds. The drums are not overly heavy or powerful, instead just providing an apt beat in the background.

Recommended for those who want a break from the cliches of modern industrial, for a dark and introspective journey into oneself. 9/10
