Interview: Anna Kiraly of symphonic metal band Sorronia

Sorronia is a symphonic metal band from Hungary, recently formed from the ashes of Thristana. I caught up with lead singer, Anna to find out what they've been up to and their plans for the future.

The band was originally known as Thristana but recently changed to Sorronia for various reasons. Anna says: "We had a big change with the band line up. Also we fell back from the progressiveness.  Anyway we made ourselves different from the concept of Thristana."

They're currently busy working on their first full length album. It can be a stressful experience for any band, but despite the long hours Sorronia seems to be coping well, "We are working 8 hours a day. It is very interesting to hear the songs heading towards completion." Though things are going smoothly there still isn't a set release date: "We can't say an exact date but the release is planned around spring. Also we will upload some kind of teaser for the album." They're also looking to get signed. "We have plans about getting signed to an independent label. We will see in Spring."

As well as working in the studio the symphonic metallers have recorded and premiered their first music video which took a day to record and two weeks to edit. It turned out extremely well but there were some problems in the beginning says Anna: "First of all we had a very foggy and cold weather. Me and István got a nice flue haha. The shots with the band were running without any problems."

With regards to touring, Sorronia doesn't have any dates set in stone as yet. In the past the group has done several shows in their home country, but they would like to travel further afield. "We are planning an album release gig in the future but we have some plans to get abroad too." I asked Anna who she would most like to tour with: "Any bands!" she responded, adding: "OK, to be honest, I think we would be glad to tour with the bands of our idols in music. It varies from the genre symphonic metal to power or maybe the symphonic black metal."

In line with most other symphonic metal bands, Anna revealed that their material has quite a personal touch: "Our music is about life itself. About feelings, misery, fear, love." She added: "I think the songs have different messages to different people." In addition to this they're influenced by: "classical music, metal and melodic metal."

Anna has been into music from a very early age. "I got into music school when I was 6." I asked her about her inspirations, and she responded saying: "It's hard to tell who inspires me. There are several vocalists I love for their work." The future looks bright, but where does she see the band in ten years from now? " Touring, making albums, making music for living and reaching more and more people."

And to finish off Anna would like to say: "Listen to metal every day! haha" \m/
